The REDARC Encapsulated Power Diode 7A EPDK-001 is a device designed to prevent unwanted interactions between aftermarket accessories and your vehicle's vital systems (such as AEB, adaptive cruise control, stability control, downhill assist, etc.). Rated at 7 Amps for both 12 and 24V applications, its use allows for normal Trailer braking and Stop Lamp operation when the vehicle brakes or the Tow-Pro Manual Override is used, without any interference with the vehicle's Can Bus.

The REDARC EPDK-001 is designed and engineered to fit in the Trailer Stop Lamp feed to support the installation of Tow-Pro Electric Brake Controllers on vehicles where ‘back-feed’ of 12V (during Tow-Pro Manual Override) may interfere with the vehicle systems.

Before choosing a diode, it is important to check if the module is suitably rated for both current and voltage drop. An underrated diode will overheat and short-circuit, rendering it ineffective in blocking feedback to the vehicle system. This could lead to a number of issues including dash fault lights, turning off cruise control or interference with AEB. The diode can split if it is not properly rated for the current, resulting in the trailer brakes or brake lights no longer being activated by the vehicle's brake pedal.

The REDARC Encapsulated Power Diode 7A EPDK-001 is mounted on a heatsink to ensure that heat is properly dissipated, and can operate at a maximum ambient temperature of 850C. Its lead terminations are engineered to be secure, as diode leads are notoriously fragile and often break due to movement, flexing or stress in harsh under-chassis environments. Not only is the REDARC Encapsulated Power Diode 7A EPDK-001 designed to be more resistant to breakage, it is also encapsulated in a plastic over-moulded package to ensure its resistance to corrosion from water spray. The diode can be mounted easily by running cable ties through the pre-made channels in the plastic outer casing.
